One of the most famous Italian design studios, specializing in building their bodies on the chassis of other automakers - Zagato, attempted to create a new body for the Aston Martin car, based on the "DB7". Previously, the company has repeatedly created the body for the models of this English company. In 1960-1963, 20 Aston Martin DB4 GTZ models were created with the Zagato body, 87 copies of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato were created in 1986-1988, including 37 copies made by the Volante with a body convertible. Aston Martin Zagato, created on an upgraded chassis model DB7, turned out shorter, wider and lighter than the serial Vantage.
With a positive effect on the dynamics of the already very fast car. At the same time, the look of the new Aston Martin is similar to the Vanquish model: it develops the family features of the Aston lines, while at the same time retaining the signature feature of most of the Qatow's developments - a double longitudinal wave on the roof. This is the know-how of the founder of the company, Hugo Zagato, the adherent of aerodynamics, who embodied the dry laws of exact science into the smooth curves of the panels of his cars.
In addition, you can see such typical moves for Zagato, such as triangular rear roof pillars, reverse tilt of an acute rear side window, a sloping roof with the same acute rear window echoing the embossed roof with protrusions above the heads of passengers - the same move was used in the prototype of the Zagato Raptor. The solution to the trunk lid is interesting: it is vertical, located in the rear end and leans back like a pickup truck. Accurate in control, incredibly tenacious on the Aston Martin Zagato road is alien to this Spartan rigidity of Porsche or Lamborghini - the wizards on adjusting the suspension tried.
The changes also affected the manual transmission, the new gear ratios of the treads and the main pair are designed to whip up the acceleration dynamics, since the six-liter V12 engine remained unchanged. Six-liter, which is a lot, the 48-valve engine develops 420 hp. and the maximum torque of 542 N * m at 5000 rpm, which allows the DB7 Zagato to accelerate to 100 km / h in 5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of about 260 km / h.
In motion, the car turns the wheels 18-inch radius, the design of which is also made Zagato. The car is lighter than the serial Vantage by 60 kg (curb weight of 1740 kg). Stop the car ventilated disc brakes with calipers Pagid RS4-2-1.
Outside, the Aston-Martin DB7 Zagato is painted green, which is traditional for British sports cars. The salon is upholstered in leather “Conolly”, and the floor is suede. Aston Martin DB7 Zagato surrounds you with an atmosphere of comfort and reliability, completely devoid of flashy luxury.
Inside there is a serene, concentrated peace - the forerunner of certain actions. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electrically adjustable heated front seats, electric drives and heated exterior mirrors and rear windows, traction control, central locking with alarm, a Kenwood stereo with a CD changer and six speakers calibrated for the cabin and a driver’s airbag. The car was first introduced on August 19, 2003 during the traditional Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in Monterey, California. In collaboration with the Italian body-builder Aston-Martin, no more than 99 collectible Aston-Martin DB7 Zagato cars were launched, the production of which began in 2004.
