Lanos is a compact car with a transverse engine and front wheel drive. He represents Daewoo in a very serious European size class C. The car perfectly combines operational and driving characteristics, comfort and stylish appearance with an acceptable price.
Daewoo Lanos debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1997. The three- or five-door hatchback and Lanos sedan (actually the first independent development of Daewoo) was designed in collaboration with a number of reputable German and English engineering companies from the Daewoo research and development center in Woking. The car body was designed by the famous Italian bodybuilding studio Ital Design. The car looks very nice, the fit of the body panels at a good level. Finishing a fairly spacious cabin is made of inexpensive materials, but the design causes only positive emotions. Comfortable seating will make even a long trip enjoyable.
In the role of power units, three engines of 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 power from 75 to 106 horsepower. All engines provide the car with decent dynamics. For its small size, Daewoo Lanos has a decent smoothness, as well as good sound insulation. Standard equipment of Daewoo Lanos includes: electric front windows, heated rear windows, body-colored bumpers, alloy wheels, air conditioning, a car stereo, and a rear fog lamp. For safety, the car is equipped with two airbags, power steering and ABS. When developing a car, designers paid increased attention to its reliability and durability.
It was assumed that the main market for Daewoo Lanos will be the countries of Eastern Europe. In this regard, in the late 1990s, the car assembly began in Poland, Ukraine and Russia. In our country, the company “Doninvest” was engaged in the production of this machine. However, soon after the release of the first batch of “Assol” sedans at the plant in Rostov (such a trademark was received by Lanos in Russia) a financial crisis began in our country and Korea, as a result of which the project did not receive further development. Production of the car in South Korea was curtailed in 2004. Now the model is assembled only in Vietnam and in Ukraine “AvtoZAZ-Daewoo”.
For the Ukrainian market, the Lanos is equipped with 1.5 liter engines of the R4 8V (86 hp) and 1.6 liter of the R4 16V (106 hp), while in Vietnam the basic version is the Lanos with a 1.4 liter 8V engine (75 hp) The gearbox is only a 5-speed manual. Ukrainian cars are offered in three basic configurations: S, SE and SX. The most expensive version includes power steering, airbag for the driver, air conditioning, ABS, central locking, adjustable steering column, stereo and electric windows. In Zaporozhye, they also produce a simpler version with a 1.3 liter engine from the Melitopol Motor Plant. This modification has its own name - Sens.
In 2005, Chevrolet Lanos, produced by the Ukrainian plant ZAZ, entered the Russian market. Body - only sedan. Engine: gasoline 1.5 liters (86 hp).
