Opel Kadett E, produced in Germany from 1984 to 1991, owes its birth to Nexia. The first copies of the model produced under the license of Opel left the Daewoo conveyor in 1986. The car went for export to the USA and Canada under the name Pontiac Le Mans, and in the markets of other countries it became known as Daewoo Racer.
The first Racer appeared on the Russian market in the early 90s, cars were brought into the country through the channels of "gray" dealers. In 1995, the first restyling of this model took place, during which the front and rear parts, lighting engineering, interior design were completely redesigned, and the vehicle wheelbase increased by 100 mm. After modernization, the model received a new name - Nexia (in the domestic market of Korea, it was offered under the name Cielo). The car was assembled by Daewoo branches in various countries: UzDaewoo in Uzbekistan, Krasny Aksai in Russia, and Rodae in Romania. Daewoo Nexia is a fairly modern and comfortable car at a low price.
The front-wheel-drive model of the first years of production was offered with bodies: a sedan, a 3- and 5-door hatchback, the latter, however, was not widely used. Externally, the car looks pretty solid, with large overhangs of the body in front and behind, as well as a very roomy trunk of 530 liters. The cabin is designed for comfortable accommodation of four passengers (three in the back seat are already cramped, although there are enough tall people above the head). Adjusting the driver's seat allows you to get comfortable driving a person of any body size. In general, the ergonomics of the Nexia is not bad.
The model has two main complete sets: GL and GLE, they differ in the number of additional equipment and the level of trim. Since the GL version is equipped with a radio, it does not have a tachometer and interior trim of the trunk, power steering (optional for GL), air conditioning (optional for GL), etc. Accordingly, the more expensive GLE has: driver's seat height adjustment, security bars in the doors, power steering, tachometer, radio tape recorder with automatic antenna + 4 speakers, electric drive for all side windows, clock, central locking, fog lights, hubcaps on wheels, mirror housings body color and moldings on the door. Air conditioning, ABS and airbag are optional.
In the role of the main driving force acted 1.5 liter 8-valve 75-horsepower engine with injection, which provided the car is quite decent dynamics. At the end of 2002, an upgraded model of the Daewoo Nexia Minor appeared, which was equipped with a 16-valve injection engine of 1.5 liters and an output of 85 horsepower. In addition, several changes were made to the interior and exterior trim: plastic wood pads around the inside handles on the front, moldings, chrome grille. New modification collected in parallel with the usual Daewoo Nexia. Both power units are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. In 2003, Hatchbacks were discontinued, and now only sedans leave the assembly line.
