Fiat Regata was originally introduced by the Italian car company Fiat in 1983, as a version of the model of a small family car Fiat Ritmo, but in a sedan. The debut of the car Fiat Ragata was held at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983. The car was very similar to the Fiat Ritmo with minor external changes (not counting the body type), and also borrowed almost all the technical stuff from its “colleague”.
For the Regata model, three petrol and two diesel engine variants were proposed. The list of proposed engines was also similar to that offered for the Fiat Ritmo. It consisted of the following power units: two 4-cylinder petrol engines SOHC with a volume of 1.3 and 1.5 liters with a capacity of 68 hp. (Regata 70) and 82 hp (Regata 85) respectively; 4-cylinder petrol power unit DOHC 1.6-liter capacity of 100 hp (Regata 100); as well as two diesel 4-cylinder SOHC engines of 1.7 and 1.9 liters, whose power was 58 hp (Regata D) and 65 hp (Regata DS) respectively.
Also was released and economical model Fiat Regata called Regata ES ("Energy Saving"). It was equipped with a slightly modified petrol engine of 1.3 liters with an electronic ignition system, whose power was 65 liters. In 1984, the Fiat Regata version of the station wagon was introduced, which was called the Regata Weekend.
It was available with gasoline engines of 1.3 and 1.6 liters, and could also be equipped with any of the proposed diesel power units. The suspension of the car was strengthened, due to the greater carrying capacity. This model was designed to replace the car Fiat 131 Panorama. In 1986, the car Fiat Regata has undergone some external changes. Of the major changes worth noting: the new doors, an updated grille and bumper, as well as new door handles and rims. Gasoline engines with a volume of 1.5 and 1.6 liters were equipped with fuel injectors and catalysts, as a result of which their power was 75 hp and 90 hp respectively. Diesel engines have also been slightly modified.
The power of the 2-liter turbodiesel was already 80 hp (Regata Turbo DS), and the working capacity of a 1.7-liter diesel engine after some changes increased to 60 hp, while it became more economical. Models with this diesel engine were formerly called Regata D.
