Jaguar Daimler - car review

Historically, Daimler cars, starting with the first Daimler 4HP Phaeton in 1897, are a favorite means of transportation for the British aristocracy and an integral part of the royal motorcade. For example, one of the copies of the famous Daimler Double Six 30 of 1929 belonged to King of England George V. The first British car was Daimler.

In 1960, Daimler Motor, which had no relation to Daimler-Benz, was bought by Jaguar, and from the late 1960s, Daimler began to be used in the name of the most luxurious full-size models of this automaker. The first Daimler was the Jaguar 420 series of the 1966 model year, also called Daimler Sovereign. Of the design features should be allocated independent S-type suspension for all wheels, rear-wheel drive and a monocoque body.

Production of machines of this series was completed in 1968. The main Jaguar Daimler is the XJ production series, which was produced in factories in Castle Bromwich (Birmingham) and Halewood (Liverpool) and has several generations of models. For the North American market, the Jaguar XJ was called the Vanden Plas, and for the rest of the world, Daimler. Released since 1968, the XJ I in 1973 replaced Daimler Double Six; The design of the car has undergone significant changes. Double Six is unique in design and technical characteristics. The car was designed on the basis of the third series of Jaguar.

External differences from the base model consist in the length of the body, the shape of the wings and the performance of the grooved (and not even, like the usual Jaguar) chrome grille grille. Salon cars differed comfort and ergonomics. Under the hood, Daimler Double Six was a 12-cylinder engine with 350 hp, hence the name Double Six ("double six"). Not surprisingly, with such a power unit that looked like a representative car, Daimler was charged like a sports car. The engine was paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission.

At the same time, the model was distinguished by exceptional smoothness. Daimler passengers could feel equally comfortable both at speeds of 30 km / h and when driving at 220 km / h. The work of the suspension, “swallowing” small irregularities and rather large holes, contributed to the smoothness and smoothness of the course. Acoustic comfort maintained a good body insulation.

The consequence of the presence of a powerful motor was the need to install disc brakes on the car, used in those years only on race cars. The suspension design and axle-weighting were designed in such a way that it was practically impossible to break the Daimler Double Six from a given trajectory, despite the lack of electronic systems. Even in sharp turns the car had excellent road holding. The third generation of the Jaguar Daimler XJ series was produced from 1979 to 1986 (for Europe). In the United States, the change occurred in 1987.

Until 1989, the release of the Daimler Double Six XJ12 version continued. The next model wore an XJ40 index and was equipped with a 4-liter injection engine, aggregated with an automatic transmission. The interior trim was traditionally rich: Power Steering, leather upholstery, climate control, electric and heated front seats, cruise control, alarm, CD player, power windows, mirrors and sunroof, ABS and airbags for the driver and front passenger. In 1994, the production of the X300 began, in 1997, the X308 with the V8 powerplant, and in 2003 the X350. Produced until 2007, the Jaguar Daimler had a 4-seater body with dimensions of 5148/2078/1345 mm with a wheelbase of 2995 mm.

Its curb weight reached 1800 kg, and the allowable total - 2260 kg. The luggage compartment - 430 liters. The car was equipped with an injected gasoline 4-liter V8 engine with a supercharged engine with a capacity of 363 hp / 6150 rpm and a maximum torque of 505 Nm / 3600 rpm. Acceleration to 100 km / h took 5.7 s, the maximum speed reached 250 km / h. The consumption of AI-98 gasoline in the urban cycle was 18.5 liters, in the suburban - 10 liters and in the mixed one - 13.1 liters per 100 km.

The transmission on Daimler was established automatic 5-step. The suspension was independent spring, disc brakes, and the standard tire size 235 / 50R17Z. In 2006, the new luxury executive sedan Daimler Super Eight was introduced. Dimensions of the 4-door sedan 5215/1860/1448 mm with a wheelbase of 3159 mm. The curb weight of the machine - 1665 kg, weight with a full load - 2284 kg.

The luggage compartment - 470 liters. Interior equipment includes power steering, electric adjustment of the steering column, front seats, rear-view mirrors, parking sensors front and rear, on-board computer, 8 PB, separate climate control, electric windows, heated seats, automatic light control, fog lights, remote opening of the gas tank and trunk, rain sensor, audio system with subwoofer, alarm, immobilizer, navigation system, electric sunblinds, leather and natural wood trim, light-alloy wheels skiing and much more. The 4,996-liter V8 32V petrol engine delivers 400 hp / 6,100 rpm, 408 Nm / 3,500 rpm and meets EU4 requirements.

The maximum speed is 250 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h - 5.3 s. The power unit is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The active safety system requires the availability of ABS, EBD, dynamic stability control DSC and electronic stabilization system ESP.
