Mercedes-Benz GLC - mid-size crossover, which replaced the all-terrain GLK. The name of the car was replaced in the framework of the new rules for the designation of Mercedes models. The official presentation of the GLC was held on June 17, 2015 in Stuttgart. The design of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, compared with its predecessor, will change radically. In place of the angular style came smooth contours of the body and a slightly sloping roof with seriously increased in size side windows on the rear racks. A rather compact false radiator grille is decorated with two powerful, horizontal chrome beams with the brand logo in the center. Close to it are the headlights (for a fee - fully LED).
The small front bumper is equipped with additional air ducts tightened by a fine mesh, a curved chrome strip with a plate under the number plate, a protective ski. The profile shows a slightly stretched forward silhouette, an almost flat roof line, large side doors and swollen wheel arches under the wheels R 18-20. A crossover was built on the modular platform MRA, already used on the C-Class sedan. Compared to the GLK, the model’s length has increased by 120 millimeters (4656 mm), width by 50 millimeters (1890 mm), height by 9 millimeters (1639 mm), and the size of the wheelbase has become more by 118 millimeters (2873 mm).
In addition, GLC has become 80 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, while 50 kilograms were able to be dropped due to a lighter body in which aluminum is widely used. Mass models - from 1735 to 2025 kilograms, depending on the version. The drag coefficient is 0.31 versus 0.34 per GLK. The growth of external dimensions is reflected in the cabin. Most (57 mm) increased the stock of legroom for rear passengers. The width of the passenger compartment at the level of the shoulders in front grew by 54 mm, at the rear - by 28 mm, and the height of the cabin added 8 mm in front.
But on the second row the ceiling was lower by 7 mm. The trunk has grown by 110 liters (now 580 liters) in the five-seater layout, and with the second row folded - 1600 liters (+ 50 liters). Moreover, the backs on the second row, divided in the proportion of 40/20/40, can be placed almost vertically (“cargo mode”), gaining a few liters while retaining the seats. The interior design is made in the manner of the C-Class W205 with three round nozzles in the center console and a large screen multimedia system above it.
Depending on the configuration level, the crossover has 9 airbags, adaptive Stop-Go cruise control, blind zone monitoring systems, intersection of road marking lines and changing lanes, pedestrian recognition, analysis of obstacles and preventing frontal collisions. As well as parking assistant, road signs reader, Command Online multimedia complex, leather interior with expensive wood inserts, power mirrors and chairs (the latter with ventilation and heating) and other progressive "chips" responsible for comfort, safety and entertainment. Initially, four engine options are offered for the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The base is a 2.1-liter diesel, which is offered in variants of return 170 hp.
(400 Nm) on the modification of the GLC 220d 4Matic and 204 hp (500 Nm) - on the GLC 250d 4Matic. The first accelerates the car from a spot to a hundred in 8.3 seconds, the second in 7.6 seconds. The petrol version of the GLC 250 4Matic is equipped with a 2.0-liter “turbo-four” with a return of 211 hp. (350 Nm).
This engine allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds. All three options have a nine-speed "automatic" and a permanent four-wheel drive, distributing thrust in the ratio of 45:55 in favor of the rear axle (in normal mode). The fourth engine variant is the first hybrid in the segment that is recharged from a household electrical grid, called the GLC 350 e 4Matic.
The power plant includes a 211-horsepower gasoline “four”, a 115-horsepower electric motor, a set of lithium batteries with a capacity of 8.7 kilowatt-hours and a seven-speed automatic transmission. The total thrust reaches 560 Nm, which allows you to accelerate from zero to a hundred in 5.9 s and develop a maximum speed of 235 km / h. Power reserve on the electric will be 34 kilometers, and the maximum speed in this mode - 140 kilometers per hour.
The company said that carbon dioxide emissions from this modification - 60 g / km. In the base, the novelty will receive a conventional suspension with steel springs, adaptive shock absorbers and five modes of operation (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport +, “individual”). As an option for the GLC, an air suspension will be offered, which, complete with a special off-road package Off-Road Engineering, will allow you to adjust the ground clearance in several ways: reduce by 15 millimeters in sport mode, by 35 millimeters (in Sport +), by 40 millimeters (in loading mode), and increase by 30 or 50 millimeters to a maximum of 227 millimeters.
Later, the line of power units for the Mercedes GLC will be expanded. Will get a car and a "charged" modification from AMG.
