The mid-size Plymouth Acclaim front-wheel-drive sedan was manufactured at Chrysler’s Newark (Delaware) and Toluca (Mexico) plants from 1989 to 1995. The forerunners of Acclaim were Plymouth Caravelle and Plymouth Reliant. This car was also called Dodge Spirit, and similar models were Chrysler LeBaron and Chrysler Saratoga. Acclaim has changed little over six years of production. At the base of the car's design was the Chrysler AA platform.

The dimensions of the 4-door 5-seater body were 4602/1731/1410 mm with a wheelbase of 2624 mm for the first generation cars. Cars of the second generation (1991-1995) were 52 mm lower, the base decreased by 5 mm. Front wheel track - 1463 mm, rear - 1453 mm. Model curb weight - 1262 kg.

The luggage compartment - 408 liters. The basic equipment of the Acclaim was better than that of the twin Spirit, including, among other things, the finishing materials. Externally, the version of the Plymouth differed chrome moldings, grille and shape of headlights. There were three types of equipment for cars produced in 1989-1991: basic, LE (medium level) and LX; Since 1992, the production program has remained one option for equipment, but with the possibility of installing various options at the request of the buyer: an electric batt, a radio tape recorder, powered windows, a central lock, cruise control, etc.

Since 1993, Acclaim has also been offered in the Golden Package package, which included gold-colored alloy wheels and gold-plated moldings. In Canada, these cars were the best-selling Plymouth models. In total, the company offered 26 variants of body painting (18 of them are metallic) with extravagant names. Such, for example, as Glamor Turquoise Metallic (Glamor turquoise metallic). The model was fitted with a 2.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder 8-valve engines: the baseline TBI I4 (102 hp / 4800 rpm, 183 Nm / 2800 rpm), turbocharged I4 (150 hp) - with 1989 to 1992, as well as the Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 with a volume of 2,972 liters (141 hp / 5000 rpm, 232 Nm / 2400 rpm).

The consumption of AI-92 gasoline in the urban cycle for the 2.5-liter version was 9.8 l, for 3 l — 10.4 l per 100 km, and the volume of the fuel tank was 61 l. In 1993–1995, a modified 2.5-liter engine that operated on fuel with 85% methanol was offered for Acclaim. A small part of the motors was aggregated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and the bulk of the cars came with a 3-type gearbox Torqueflite A413 or A670.

Since 1992, most versions of the Acclaim with a V6 engine have been completed with a 4-speed electronically controlled A604 automatic transmission. The front independent suspension consisted of a double wishbone, coil springs and a lateral stabilizer. The rear one included a continuous beam, springs and a lateral stabilizer. The brakes on the Acclaim were installed ventilated front disc and rear drum. ABS was supplied as an option.

Acclaim was the latest model, unified with the Dodge and one of the last, equipped with a 4-cylinder powertrain.
