The appearance of the serial version of the Carrera GT was preceded by a concept presented in 2000 at the Paris Motor Show. The production of the Porsche supercar, which is able to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini, began in September 2003. Carrera GT is, in fact, an extreme sports car, the creation of which used the latest achievements from the world of motor racing. This two-seater supercar has been developed by Porsche specialists based on renowned racing test experience and production know-how.
Carrera GT is the most technically advanced model of the Stuttgart manufacturer in the entire history of the production of Porsche cars. The sports car got a fast-moving look, retaining the signature features of Porsche. The most interesting lies, of course, in the technical side of the Carrera GT.
The roadster is 4.61 meters long, 1.92 meters wide and 1.16 meters high. It weighs only 1,380 kg. Such results were achieved through the use of new technology: the car body was created around a monocoque of reinforced carboplast. Carbon is the only material that, after processing, can be an excellent material for creating rigid, durable and lightweight panels. Engineers have done everything possible to reduce the weight of the car.
The GT is equipped with Kevlar seats, door panels and an instrument panel, the total weight of which is two times less than the same components in the 911 models. In addition, magnesium discs are installed, which are 25% lighter than aluminum. The body received very good aerodynamic performance. Porsche engineers have worked on almost every detail of the body in order to achieve high performance in aerodynamics.
Everything from air intakes to a diffuser ensures that the car does not lose traction. Accordingly, tires were also selected: tires with dimensions of 265/35 ZR19 in front and 335/30 ZR20 in the rear are mounted on 20-inch disks. Carrera GT received a retractable roof, consisting of two halves, each weighing 2.5 kg. After you disconnect them, you can put them in the luggage compartment. The car is equipped with a 10-cylinder engine of 5.7 liters and a power of 612 hp. Up to 100 km / h, the Carrera GT accelerates in 3.9 seconds, and after another 6 seconds the speed of the roadster will be 200 km / h.
The maximum speed is 330 km / h. In order to accelerate the car to such a speed, the six-speed manual gearbox and the carbon clutch of the Porsche Ceramic Composite Clutch (PCCC) are used as efficiently and quickly as possible. There was a place for such interesting solutions as automatic lifting up of the middle part of the rear spoiler at a speed of 120 km / h, which significantly increases downforce. In August 2005, the manufacturer announced the restriction of the release of this model 1250 copies. And on May 6, 2006, the last supercar Carrera GT rolled off the assembly line of the Porsche plant in Leipzig. In total, a little more than 1270 copies of this model were released.
Although initially in Porsche wanted to build 1500 of these cars. However, the demand for Carrera GT was slightly lower than expected.
