Renault Scenic XMOD - car review

Scenic XMOD is an unusual model that combines the qualities of a compact van and a crossover. The debut of the model took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. The car is built on the basis of the Renault Scenic minivan, which in 2012 experienced a restyling. It was from him that XMOD took a spacious saloon with wide possibilities for transformation, an updated line of turbocharged Renault engines from the Energy family with reduced fuel consumption, as well as an advanced multimedia installation R-Link. Thus, in terms of comfort and equipment, the XMOD is in no way inferior to its prototype, and is even ahead of it in terms of trunk volume.

External differences Scenic XMOD from the standard version: new bumpers and sills, protective plastic in black on the sides, luggage rails, increased ground clearance and other light alloy wheels. The new design of the grille has become more expressive and flaunts a large Renault nameplate and proprietary LED daytime running lights. Inside the Scenic XMOD, a TFT display appeared, replacing the classic dashboard, the seven-inch touchscreen of the R-Link multimedia and navigation system, and the Bose Sound speaker system.

In the top-end configuration XMOD has a combined upholstery of leather and Alcantara seats, a sports steering wheel with a "cut-off" lower part and aluminum pedal pads and a gear shift lever. The cabin contains a large number of small compartments, the total volume of which is 71 liters. The size of the luggage compartment is 555 liters. To increase the luggage space, the seats can either be folded or completely dismantled. Scenic XMOD will not be available in all-wheel drive.

However, the French tried to compensate for this disadvantage with the Extended Grip control system, the essence of which is that it allows you to choose driving modes depending on road conditions. The system has three modes of operation, which are selected using a special joystick under the center console. The first Road is designed for tracks with good coverage. The second Expert mode leads to automatic control of the brakes, and the driver only controls the torque. And the third mode is called Loose Ground Extended Grip.

In this mode, the car independently controls the brakes and torque. By the way, Scenic Xmod became the first Renault model equipped with such a system. In the motor range of Renault Scenic Xmod, there are both gasoline and diesel engines. The most modest in terms of working volume - a 1.2-liter gasoline unit produces 115 hp Its average fuel consumption is 6.1 l / 100 km. The 1.4-liter gasoline engine has a capacity of 130 hp.

The line of diesel engines is also represented by two engines: 1.5 l / 110 hp and 1.6 l / 130 hp According to the manufacturer’s official data, the dci 110 engine has a fuel consumption of 4.1 l / 100 km. The dci 130 unit is a bit more “voracious” and will consume 4.4 liters. "Default" engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, and the 1.5-liter diesel engine also received the optional six-speed gearbox with double clutch.
