This mini-car manufactured by the Japanese company Subaru, was produced in 1972-1992. Subaru Rex debuted in July 1972 and replaced the model Subaru R-2 on the conveyor. Initially, the three-door hatchback Subaru Rex was equipped with a two-cylinder two-stroke engine with a displacement of 356 cm ³ with a water-cooled capacity of 37 hp. In October 1973 he was replaced by a four-stroke, less noisy engine.
In February 1973, the car began to be offered with two body types - a four-door sedan and a three-door hatchback. The car has become very popular due to its stylish, dynamic appearance, excellent handling, stable behavior on the road, efficiency and comfort when driving on rough terrain. In 1976, Rex became 10 cm wider, lengthened to 318.5 cm, increased engine capacity to 490 cm3 and became known as the Subaru Rex 5. In the export version it was sold as the Subaru 500.
In 1977, the engine capacity was increased to 544 cm³, and power - up to 31 hp The model was called the Subaru Rex 550. In March 1978, a two-door version with a rear rising glass came out - the Subaru Rex Swingback (for export of the Rex 600). Since 1981, produced the second generation model Rex. The power unit remained the same, and the body has changed a lot - there appeared 3 and 5-door Hatchbacks and a large number of commercial versions, called Subaru Rex Combi. The car received front-wheel drive, a base of 225.5 cm and an independent spring suspension of all four wheels. The length of the car was increased to 3.24 m in the three-door and to 3.28 cm in the five-door version.
In 1982, the engine capacity was increased to 665 cm ³. The car was renamed the Subaru 700. In Europe, the Rex was also sold under the name Subaru Mini Jumbo, in Australia - the Subaru Sherpa, and China produced its own Rex - a five-door hatchback, called the Yunque GHK 7060 (with an engine of 544 cm3), and at the end of 1998 he was extended to 146.2 cm, lengthened to 336.7 cm and renamed to Yunque GHK 7060A. At the 1983 Tokyo Motor Show, the family was complemented by the all-wheel drive version of the Rex 4WD. In December of the same year, a “charged” version of a turbocharged engine appeared.
The third generation Subaru Rex (in the 3- and 5-door body with a wheelbase of 229.5 cm) was released in 1986. The car received a new three-valve two-cylinder engine, equipped in 1988 with a compressor driven by a crankshaft (superchardger). In 1987, the Subaru Rex appeared permanent all-wheel drive all wheels.
In the export version, the car was equipped with a slightly more powerful engine (665 cm3) and was called the Subaru M70. In June 1989, the 2-cylinder engine was replaced by a four-cylinder, displacement of 547 cm³, which was also equipped with supercharger compressors. On export models put a 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 758 cm ³, and the car itself was called the Subaru M80. Subaru Rex in its time found many fans among buyers. First of all, this popularity was explained by the markedly reduced tax rate on microcars, because they are less harmful to the environment.
