Suzuki Swift is a compact front wheel drive car with a transverse engine. In the US, sold under the name Chevrolet Metro. The first Swift name (translated from English - “fast”, “fast”) appeared in the Suzuki model range in 1983, when compact 3- and 5-door hatchbacks equipped with a 1.0-liter 50-hp and 1 were offered to customers. , 3-liter 68-horsepower engines. The first Swift was produced for six years, after which the second generation of this car was created. The interior and the exterior have undergone major changes, while the undercarriage has remained almost the same. At the same time, the four-door sedan and all-wheel drive versions debuted.

The main driving force was a four-cylinder, eight-valve engine with a fuel injection volume of 1.3 liters, 68 hp, a modernized 1.0 liter engine, which increased its power to 53 hp, and a 1.6-liter unit, 92 power. —101 hp for sedans. The transmission offered five-speed manual and three-speed automatic gearbox. Front brakes - disc, rear - drum. Standard equipment includes velor upholstery, air conditioning, electric mirrors and power windows in the front doors, central locking and built-in immobilizer. Additionally installed power steering, two airbags and ABS.

Suzuki Swift of the 1989 model turned out to be very tenacious and managed to hold out for a rather long time on the conveyor belt, having gone through several upgrades. In 1995, the Japanese set up production Swift in Hungary. In 1996, the model survived the upgrade. Exterior car is simple and concise.

The interior is strict and functional. Despite its small size, the Swift is quite spacious. Ergonomics of the driver's workplace at a decent level. All controls are "at hand". Everything is accessible and convenient. Upholstery Suzuki Swift is made of high quality velor, not only providing comfort in winter and summer, but also perfectly washable and dry-cleanable, which is very practical.

The driver's seat is comfortable and with well-developed lateral support. Excellent visibility helps to easily navigate the road. Instrument panel readings are easy to read. Under the semi-circular visor of the instrument panel are four dials: a speedometer with a mechanical odometer, a tachometer, a gasoline level gauge and a thermometer. Below are the control lights.

In the central part of the dashboard are air conditioning, ashtray, cigarette lighter and electronic clock. But there is no standard radio equipment. The modernization of 2000 brought the car a 1.3-liter 16-valve engine producing 86 hp. with distributed fuel injection.

The second generation Suzuki Swift was produced at the Magyar Suzuki car factory in Hungary from 1996 to 2003. From 2003 to December 2004, instead of Swift, the Hungarian plant manufactured the Suzuki Wagon R + (aka Opel Agila). Since 2005, a new generation of Swift has entered the production line in Hungary. For the first time, the third generation Swift was introduced to the general public in Japan on November 1, 2004. Externally, the novelty is similar to the concept car Suzuki Concept-S, presented in 2002. The new Swift is the result of close cooperation of Suzuki developers with leading European experts.

The car combines all the advantages of Japanese technology and quality with European design and the latest developments. Swift turned out quite compact - its length is 3695 mm, width - 1690 mm, and height - 1500 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the previous version are 3845x1575x1380. Plus a wide gauge - 1470 in front and 1480 in the rear - and a rather stretched base - 2390 mm. The design of the third generation turned out pretty nice, however, not as aggressive as the concept of Suzuki Concept-S. The new Swift has become rounded and prominent, as opposed to the angular and flat design of the previous generation.

The car received swollen sides, bulging wheel arches, a sloping hood, original vertical headlamps, an almost vertical rear pillar and a large glass area. Bumpers, mirrors and door handles painted in body color. The rear edge of the roof is made raised - it serves as a spoiler. This time Swift is offered only with three- and five-door hatchback bodies, the sedan version is missing. From the point of view of construction, no revelations. The power unit is located in front transversely, leads the front wheels. There are three engines, all - in-line “fours”, satisfying Euro 4.

Suzuki Swift will be equipped with two petrol engines of volume. 1,3- and 1,5-liter and with a capacity of 91 and 102 horsepower, respectively, as well as a new 1.3-liter diesel engine with a common rail system and a turbocharging power of 70 horsepower. The 1.5-liter engine is equipped with a valve adjustment system (Variable Valve Timing). Swift 1.3 accelerates to 100 km / h in 11 seconds, its 1.5-liter fellow does it a second faster. The maximum speed is 175 km / h and 185 km / h. The combined cycle fuel consumption of the 1.3-liter version is 6.2 l / 100 km.

The 1.5-liter Swift with the “mechanics” eats 6.5 liters, with the “automatic” - 6.9 liters “per hundred”. The engines are coupled with three boxes: a five-speed manual (all three), a five-speed automatic mechanical (only gasoline 1.3 liters) and a four-band hydromechanical “automatic” (only 1.5 liters). Automated box has two modes of operation: normal and economical.

The suspension is quite traditional for this class: McPherson struts with a subframe in the front, a twisted beam in the back. Steering rack and pinion with hydraulic booster. Front brakes - disc, ventilated, rear - drum. Inside, everything is very strict, but quite modern and harmonious.

The console is almost absent, which is typical for the design of the new wave. The front panel is original and concise. Only high-quality materials are used in the decoration. The sporty character of the car found expression in such details as the three-spoke steering wheel, the spherical knob of the gearshift lever and the additional illumination of the speedometer. The dashboard is located as low as possible to provide a better view of the driver. The devices themselves are well read. In the center is a display that displays the most necessary information on the road.

The Swift basic package includes an adjustable steering column, adjustable driver's seat, radio with CD player, central locking with remote control, immobilizer, electrified front windows and heated mirrors, steering wheel audio control buttons and tinted windows. More expensive versions of the GLX will also have a keyless access and start-up system, air conditioning, alloy wheels and fog lights. For small luggage through the cabin, in addition to the glove box, pockets in the doors and seatbacks, Swift has a drawer under the front passenger seat and niches in the front panel. In the cabin there are three cupholders.

Photo Suzuki Swift

An ashtray is inserted into any of them - like in many modern compact cars, in Swift it is made in the shape of a jar with a lid. The trunk holds 213 liters. The back of the seat folds in the ratio of 60/40 (this function is provided only for expensive versions). If you remove both halves, the trunk capacity increases to 562 liters. The safety of the new Swift is at a high enough level. The developers were able to create a unique, resisting shock and destruction of the structure of the car using special tensile steel and lightweight, but heavy-duty structural elements.

Inside, the driver is protected from impact by a folding steering column, anti-traumatic pedals, front and side airbags. By request, side pillows and inflatable "curtains" can be installed. For active safety, the ABS works with the brake-force distribution system and the dortomazhivatel. In addition, the company emphasizes that a lot of work has been done to minimize injury to pedestrians in the event of a collision. There is also a "charged" version of Suzuki Swift, which received the prefix Sport. Its main difference from the base model is the presence of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 125 hp under the hood. and manual transmission.

In addition, the Suzuki Swift Sport has more powerful brakes, reconfigured steering, as well as a low and stiff suspension. Externally, the “charged” hatchback will be distinguished by large alloy wheels, a new aerodynamic body kit with large air intakes in the front bumper, as well as a small spoiler above the edge of the rear door. Inside the Swift Sport there will be sports front seats, a new dashboard with a speedometer marked up to 220 kilometers per hour, as well as an upgraded trim for the front and door panels with aluminum inserts. In 2010, a new generation of Suzuki Swift debuted.

There was a new round of evolutionary development of the model. When creating a new generation of Swift, represented by three- and five-door hatchbacks, Suzuki specialists managed not only to tie together a stylish, playful look, the dynamic nature of the engine and excellent driving characteristics of the car, but also to add a number of qualities that are no less valuable today. The car has become more technologically and modern.

It has high safety performance and an excellent level of comfort. The fourth-generation car grew in size. It stalchut-longer (+ 90mm), while the wheelbase has increased by 50 mm - up to 2430 mm), slightly higher (+ 10mm) and slightly wider (+ 5mm), moreover, Japanese engineers decided to rework the power structure of the body, improving torsional stiffness indicators. Three-door Swift has the same dimensions as the five-door version (length 3850 mm, width 1695 mm, height 1510 mm).

Exterior global change has not changed. The car received a new front bumper, a slightly modified lighting technology, a modified rear end and updated body panels. The power unit for the Swift is a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine with a power of 69 kW (94 hp), equipped with a proprietary system of variable valve timing VVT. At the request of the client, the engine can be aggregated as a five-speed manual gearbox, and a four-band "automatic".

At the same time, whatever the driving style - from the peaceful movement on the highway to the incendiary storming of city streets, the combination of this engine with any of the transmission options guarantees high dynamics, extremely low gas mileage and environmental friendliness of Euro-5 standard. The interior of the model has been greatly transformed, becoming more modern, balancing and more ergonomic, while pleasing with a pleasant design and thoughtfulness of every detail. Wonderful front seats can be easily adapted to any complexion of the driver’s body and the right passenger, ensuring a comfortable fit.

But the second-row passengers are still crowded, despite the increased wheelbase. The trunk volume is 528 liters. The transformation system allows you to fold not only the back, but also the sofa cushion. The useful cargo area becomes more, but at the same time the car turns into 2-seater.

Suzuki Swift is available in two trim levels: the GLA and the slightly more expensive GLX. In the GLA version, the package includes air conditioning, immobilizer, electric power steering, heated front seats, central locking, electric front windows, electric drive and heated mirrors, information display, wheels with dimensions 165/70 R14. Options GLX additionally includes a radio with six speakers and a CD changer, alloy wheels 185/60 R15, fog lights and engine start system without a key Keyless Go. With this system, you can open and close the car without removing the key from your pocket - just press a button on one of the front doors or on the trunk lid.

To start the engine, the key is also not needed - the ignition lock is equipped with a plastic handle. Suzuki Swift has a wide range of active and passive safety systems. Standard vehicle equipment includes an anti-lock system (ABS with EBD function), an electronic stabilization system (ESP), as well as 7 airbags (front, side, protective curtain airbags on the windows, as well as an airbag for the driver’s knees). Headlights and side lights on the new Swift turn on and off automatically, adapting to road conditions and thus helping to provide the necessary level of illumination in difficult conditions (for example, in tunnels, closed parking lots, as well as at night).

The algorithms of passive safety in Suzuki paid no less attention. The developers managed to create a unique, resisting shock and destruction structure of the car using special tensile steel and lightweight heavy-duty body elements, which in case of an emergency will protect the driver and passengers, leading the impact energy to the deformation and absorption zones in accordance with Suzuki Total Effective Control Technology . Swift has special interior elements that help reduce impact, a folding steering column, front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters, and a safety pedal assembly.

Also in the cabin, ISOFIX mounts are provided for fixing a child seat and special locks in the rear doors that prevent the child from opening the doors on their own. In 2013, Suzuki Swift has undergone a restyling. Cardinal changes did not happen, the car received only minor cosmetic changes in the design, designed to slightly refresh the look. The updated version received a new front bumper with a pronounced spoiler, a modified false radiator grille, LEDs in the edging of the front fog lamps and exterior rear-view mirrors with turn signals (available only in the maximum version of the GLX).

The back of the updated model remains the same, unless of course we take into account the LED lamps in the additional, upper brake light on the spoiler. In addition, the design has changed the wheels and hubcaps. New colors of enamel became available - Sunburst Yellow (sunny yellow metallic) and Boost Blue (saturated blue). Depending on the configuration level, the hatchback is equipped with 175/65 R15 tires on steel 15-inch wheels or 185/55 R16 tires on 16-gauge alloy wheels. As a spare wheel dokatka - 135/70 R15. As before, the updated Suzuki Swift can be purchased in a 3 or 5 door body.

Overall dimensions of the car have not changed and are: 3850 mm in length, 1695 mm in width, 1510 mm in height, 2430 mm wheelbase, 140 mm ground clearance (ground clearance). The basic versions are front-wheel drive, but now all-wheel drive Suzuki Swift 4WD has become available to Russians (the 4x4 transmission is offered only with a five-door body and manual transmission). Unfortunately, the ground clearance of this version is also 140 mm, despite the fact that more energy-intensive shock absorbers are installed and the total body height is 1,535 mm. The increase in 25 mm under the bottom eats protruding differential.

The interior of the 2013 Suzuki Swift is also a minimum of changes. A new fabric upholstery has become available, which is available in blue, black and gray. In general, materials used in interior decoration have become better. The amount of luggage on the Suzuki Swift 2013 in a traveling position with rear passengers is modest - 211 liters, adding up the second row, creates more luggage stock - 512 liters for the three-door and 528 liters for the five-door hatchback version. The maximum amount of luggage compartment when loading under the ceiling will be 860 and 874 liters, respectively. Specifications updated Swift remained unchanged.

Independent front suspension on McPherson racks, semi-dependent rear with torsion beam, rack and pinion with electric power steering. The car is driven by a lightweight 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine that develops 94 horsepower with a torque of 118 Nm. Consumption in the combined cycle declared by the manufacturer at 5.0-5.6 liters per 100 kilometers, depending on the selected transmission and body type.

In the city, fuel consumption is kept in the range of 6.1-6.8 liters, and on a flat country highway it decreases to 4.4-4.9 liters per hundred kilometers. For harmful emissions, which range from 116 to 128 grams per kilometer, the engine complies with modern Euro 5 standards. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or 4 automatic transmission. Swift with mechanics accelerates to 100 km / h in 12.3 seconds, the maximum speed of 165 km / h. With the "automatic" reaches 100 km / h in 13.5 seconds, the maximum speed of 160 km / h.

Dynamics to the first hundred all-wheel drive version is 13.4 seconds. The curb weight of the car, depending on the configuration, installed gearbox and transmission ranges from 975 kg to 1085 kg. The choice of car is limited to two trim levels - “GL” and “GLX”, which, depending on the choice of gearbox and full or front-wheel drive, form 5 modifications of different cost.

The initial GL includes air conditioning, audio system, central locking, electric heated mirrors, heated front seats, power windows for all doors, a trip computer, driver’s lift, height adjustment of the steering column, second-row air deflectors, ABS with EBD and ESP, Brake Assist, 7 airbags, front disc and rear drum brakes.

In the GLX configuration, front fog lights added with LED daytime running lights, a light sensor for automatic control of headlights, turn signal lights on the mirrors, steering wheel adjustment not only on tilt, but also on the departure, cruise control with steering on the steering wheel, keyless access to the cabin and starting the engine with a button, disc brakes on all wheels. Due to its maneuverability and compactness, Suzuki Swift perfectly overcomes urban traffic jams and does not cause parking problems to its owner.
