In March 2006, at the Geneva Motor Show, Suzuki unveiled the SX4, the full name of which is Sport Crossover 4x4 Seasons. The Japanese manufacturer made this model together with the Italian Fiat, whose first SUV will be called Sedici. The car is built on an elongated platform Suzuki Swift, but it is much higher than that. Crossover SX4 received a pronounced wedge-shaped shape due to the protruding front and rear bumpers, slanting, widely spaced headlights, and chopped off rear part with side lights. Suzuki SX4 is offered in front-wheel drive 2WD and all-wheel drive 4WD versions.
Modern all-wheel drive system with electronic control, depending on road conditions, will choose one of three transmission modes: 4WD Auto, 4WD Lock or 2WD. 2WD means front-wheel drive. AUTO - automatic connection of the rear in the event of a slip leading. Finally, LOCK mode is permanent all-wheel drive. But it acts only up to 60 km / h and switches to AUTO on reaching this speed. The choice of the buyer Suzuki SX4 is available in two trim levels, which are slightly different in their appearance: Urban Line and Outdoor Line. The Urban Line package with dimensions 4,10x1,73x1,56 (length, width and height) is focused on the urban lifestyle, representing a front-wheel-drive crossover.
Those who purchase a car in the Outdoor Line configuration will, in fact, receive a parquet SUV with a reinforced frame and four-wheel drive, which you can resort to at the touch of a button. In addition, the off-road version will be longer than the civil one by 4 cm, wider by 2.5 cm and higher by 5.5 cm. Suzuki SX4 is equipped with three types of engines: two petrol and diesel FIAT production. The basic version of the car was equipped with a 99-strong 1.5-liter petrol unit with a maximum torque of 133 N / m.
The top version received a gasoline 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine producing 107 hp. and a maximum torque of 145 N / m. Finally, the most powerful in the lineup of power units was a 1.9-liter diesel with 120 hp. and torque of 280 N / m. In this case, the diesel particulate filter is offered in the basic version. While gasoline engines are paired with a 5-speed manual, for a complete set with a diesel engine also offer a 6-speed manual transmission. However, a 4-speed automatic transmission can be installed on a vehicle with a 1.6 engine and drive to the front axle.
Suzuki SX4 inherited the suspension from Swift (unless its elements were reinforced), got a torsion-like body and a wide rut. The basic equipment of the SX4 can be called generous. It includes 6 airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution system EBD, electric windows and heated mirrors, air conditioning, CD radio and fog lights. The ESP stabilization system is offered for the SX4 only as an option.
The all-wheel drive version features black overlays with a wheel arch changer, moldings, roof rails, 16-inch wheels and 190 mm ground clearance. The front-wheel drive is equipped with an automatic transmission, and its ground clearance is reduced to 165 (with 15-inch wheels) or 175 mm. On the basis of the Suzuki SX4 produced a similar crossover under the brand name Fiat. Cars are almost identical from a technical point of view, but received a different body design and trim. Both cars are assembled at the factory Suzuki Magyar Rt.
in Hungarian Esztergum. In 2007, a sedan appeared, created specifically for use in a limited urban space. Its equipment largely coincides with the SX4 crossover. In 2010, the Suzuki SX4 underwent a slight restyling, but from a technical point of view, almost nothing has changed. Key modifications touched on the design of the front bumper and grille with a stylish large cell pattern. Complement the picture of a new stylish 16-inch alloy wheels.
Salon trimmed with new materials. Improved insulation of the engine compartment and transmission. Inside, first of all, the new instrument panel catches the eye. Then you notice another, more convenient and “expensive” climate control unit, which has acquired a display. And crowns the center console is an additional speaker top audio system.
The 1.6-liter petrol unit received 5 additional “horses” and as many newton meters - now it produces 112 hp. and 150 N • m. In addition, the ignition system has been changed - the ignition coils are now four instead of two. In our market, the Suzuki SX4 is offered only with this engine. However, in the European market, this row "Quartet" produces 120 forces and 156 "Newtons".
The engine is paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. For the European market is also available two-liter 135-horsepower turbodiesel with 320 N • m of torque. This engine is offered exclusively with a 6-speed "mechanics".
Petrol models are available in SZ3 or SZ4 2WD (front-wheel drive) or 4x4 SZ5 format with intermittent / automatic all-wheel drive. Previously, the all-wheel drive version was only with manual transmission - after restyling, they began to offer an automatic for it. Remarkable is the fact that the SX4 is assembled in Japan and Hungary. The differences between these versions boil down to trifles. In the "Hungarian", the back of the back seat folds in the ratio of 60:40, while in the "Japanese" it can only be folded down completely.
The ground clearance of the all-wheel drive SX4 Hungarian assembly is more than 10 mm and is 185 mm (in Japanese - 175 mm). The “European” has a different front bumper and a set of color options, a two-tone upholstery, a battery increased to 60 Ah capacity, moved from the rear of the body to the front edge of the windshield antenna, orange color of the lower section of the rear lights (instead of white), square shape coasters, etc. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electric and heated mirrors, 4 electric windows, a CD / MP3 radio, heated seats, ABS and front airbags. In addition to the hatchback, updated and Suzuki SX4 Sedan.
The changes are similar to the five-door car - a more powerful and high-torque engine (112 hp, 150 N • m), another climate control unit and an additional speaker in the interior, as well as new 16-inch rims, grille and aerodynamic body kit (in Aero versions). In 2013, the premiere of the new-generation Suzuki SX4 compact crossover took place at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is a serial version of the conceptual S-Cross, first introduced in September 2012 at the Paris Motor Show. It is noteworthy that the prefix S-Cross was entrenched in the European markets, in Russia the crossover was named Suzuki New SX4.
In this case, the first generation of crossovers will remain on sale until 2015, but already under the name of Suzuki SX4 Classic. At the heart of the car is a radically revised platform predecessor, from which no more than 5% of old parts remained. The overall length of the New SX4 is 4300 millimeters (150 millimeters more than its predecessor), 1765 millimeters wide (+10 millimeters), 1575 millimeters high (+10 millimeters), and the wheelbase size is 2600 millimeters (+100 millimeters) .
But at the same time, compared to the old SX4, the new body is lighter by 60 kg, thanks to the wider use of high-strength steels, of which the struts and body sills are made, as well as the side members and some internal amplifiers. The curb weight of the car in the basic equipment is 1085 kg, in the top versions it increases to 1190 kg. The exterior has become more stylish, dynamic and modern. With notes of sportiness, thoughtful lines and aerodynamic contours. By the way, the coefficient of aerodynamic drag is 0.33. The ground clearance of the crossover is 180 mm for cars with 16-inch wheels.
In the top versions, decorated with alloy wheels, an inch more, the distance to the ground is less than five millimeters. The European Suzuki SX4 S-cross has a clearance of 170 and 165 mm, respectively. The interior is simple but of high quality. Engineers and designers of the Japanese automaker tried to remove all unnecessary and make the front panel as ergonomic as possible in the spirit of modernity. All keys, including control windows, backlit. The steering column is adjustable in two directions. And in wide ranges.
Information from the simple instrument cluster is read without problems. The increase in length in front of the cabin is only six millimeters, but 44 mm behind, 39 mm of which is how far the rear sofa cushion has moved away from the backs of the front seats. The amount of luggage increased by 160 liters - up to 430 liters. With the assembled rear row of seats, the net volume will increase to 1,269 liters.
There is a small cellar and a niche under the raised floor, where the SX4 S-cross Euro-version has a first-aid kit, and the Russian New SX4 has a dock. In the Russian market, the car is offered in three trim levels (GL, GLX and GLX +). Standard equipment includes: 16-inch wheels, roof rails, full power accessories, air conditioning, standard audio system with 4 speakers, cloth interior, halogen optics, power mirrors, heated front seats, on-board computer, cruise control and a full set of security systems, including ESP and seven airbags.
Separate climate control is available, starting with the intermediate configuration of the GLX, and the navigation system and a two-section panoramic sunroof of 800 x 560 mm - in the most expensive GLX +. The crossover is offered with one of two 1.6-liter engines to choose from - gasoline and diesel. The gasoline engine can be paired with a five-step "mechanics", and a diesel engine - with a six-speed. For both engines, the CTV variator is also available, having a seven-speed manual mode with the steering column switch. The manufacturer claims that New SX4 emissions are among the lowest in the class.
The front-wheel-drive crossover with a diesel engine throws 110 grams of CO2 per kilometer, and the top-end petrol versions, 136 grams per kilometer. For the Russian market is available only petrol "four". By the way, it was thoroughly modernized.
She has a lightweight crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons. The exhaust manifold became lighter by 1.2 kg, and from the attachments - the radiator and the exhaust system. In order to reduce fuel consumption, the stiffness of the valve actuator springs has been reduced, while the oil pump has new, narrower bearings.
The updated engine complies with Euro 6 standards. When picking a petrol engine manual transmission, the maximum speed of the car is about 180 km / h, and the time of starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h - about 11.0 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the petrol engine with the “mechanics” is quite good: on the highway, the consumption of AI-95 gasoline is about 5.0 liters, in the city the consumption increases to 6.8 liters, and in a mixed mode, the crossover will need about 5.6 liters.
Such a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption was achieved not only by upgrading the engine, but also by reconfiguring the manual transmission in which the gear ratios of 3, 4 and 5 steps were extended. Indicators of a gasoline engine paired with a CVT are somewhat more modest. The upper speed limit is declared at around 170-175 km / h (165 km / h for 4WD). The starting acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h is about 12.4 seconds.
Fuel consumption on the highway is 5.0 liters per 100 km, in the city - 6.9 liters, and in mixed mode - 5.7 liters. For all-wheel drive versions of the crossover with any type of PPC additional "increase" in fuel consumption will be approximately 0.3 liters per 100 km. Buyers will be able to purchase both front-and-wheel drive cars. And the latter is equipped with all-wheel drive technology ALLGRIP new generation with four modes of operation. Auto mode gives priority to fuel economy under normal driving conditions, engaging the rear wheels when it slips.
In Sport, a special engine management program pumps more fuel into the cylinders, sharpens accelerator responses, and also changes the algorithm of the variator, ESP and power steering. Sports mode can be enabled when driving on winding roads with a large number of turns. Snow mode (Snow) is designed for snow, ground and slippery surfaces, and Lock (Lock) includes a differential lock and is necessary for rescuing a car stuck in snow, mud or sand. Suspension: an independent design based on McPherson struts in front, a semi-dependent suspension with a torsion beam at the rear. And regardless of the type of drive.
Differences between 4x4 versions only in other settings of elastic elements and in a separate stretcher, on which the rear differential is mounted. To reduce the mass of unsprung parts, the floating brackets of the brake mechanisms are cast from aluminum alloy. In terms of driver and passenger safety, the Suzuki New SX4 / SX4 S-Cross offers a fairly serious package, including seven pillows and a number of electronic systems, including ABS, EBD, ESP and BAS. In addition, the developers have quite seriously worked on the body, strengthening the design of the doors, as well as adding programmable deformation zones in front of the car.
